Refrigerator problems we fix

A refrigerator problem can't wait: food spoils within hours and a leak damages the floor. Gideon has over 15 years of experience with top-freezer, bottom-freezer, side-by-side, French-door and built-in refrigerators from the brands found in most DC-area homes.

You get an estimate by phone before the visit. After the diagnosis, the price is confirmed before any work starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.

  • Not cooling, or not cold enough

Dirty condenser coils, a failed condenser or evaporator fan, a faulty start relay or compressor, or a thermostat or control board fault.

  • Freezer is cold but the fridge is warm

Usually a defrost problem (heater, thermostat or timer) that lets frost block the airflow, or a damper stuck shut.

  • Ice maker not making ice

A water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube, the ice maker module or the water line.

  • Water inside the fridge or on the floor

A clogged defrost drain, a cracked drain pan, a loose water line or a failed inlet valve.

  • Loud buzzing, clicking or rattling

A fan motor, the compressor start relay, or ice built up around the evaporator fan.

  • Frost building up in the freezer

A worn door gasket, or a defrost heater or sensor that has failed.

  • Water or ice dispenser not working

The dispenser switch, the inlet valve, a frozen line or the control board.

  • Runs all the time, or cycles on and off

Dirty coils, a failing thermostat, or a compressor or sealed-system problem.

How a repair visit works

No surprises: you know the cost before we start.

  1. 1. Call or send the form

Tell us the brand and what the refrigerator is doing. We go over the service-call fee and an estimate by phone and book a time, often the same or next day.

  2. 2. Diagnosis at your home

The technician tests the refrigerator, explains what failed and confirms the repair price before any work begins.

  3. 3. The repair

Many repairs finish on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, we tell you the lead time and schedule the return visit.

Questions about refrigerator repair

Is my refrigerator worth repairing?

Usually yes when it is under about ten years old and the repair costs well under half of a replacement. A failed compressor or sealed system on an old unit is the main exception. We tell you when replacement makes more sense.

How soon can you come?

Same-day and next-day appointments are often available on weekdays. Call or send the quote form and we confirm a time.

Do you repair French-door, side-by-side and built-in models?

Yes. We repair all configurations from the brands we service, including built-in and counter-depth refrigerators.

What should I do while I wait?

Keep the doors closed, move frozen food to a cooler if the freezer is warming up, and put a towel under any leak. Unplug the unit only if it smells of burning.
